Anne Spudvalis

Anne Spudvilas is an award-winning illustrator of children’s books.  Her latest book Swan Lake is shortlisted in the CBCA Picture Book of the Year. In 2008 The Peasant Prince won the NSW Premier's Award (Patricia Wrightson Prize), the Australian Book Industry Award for Younger Readers and the Queensland Premier’s Award. She has illustrated books by many Australian authors including Margaret Wild, Li Cunxin, Isobelle Carmody and Gary Crew.

Her portrait of Leigh Hobbs was a finalist in the Archibald Prize. Anne lives on the confluence of the Murray and Darling Rivers at Wentworth in New South Wales where the rich birdlife and the rivers are a constant inspiration.

 

 

Creating Mood in Black and White

Talking about atmosphere and the absence of colour, old films, other books in black and white. Anne and the students will do a drawing together in charcoal.

 

Mood in Black and White

Anne will look at various black and white books and talk about the illustration process and mediums. Then Anne and the students will do a charcoal drawing together.

 

Swan Lake - the Beauty of Black and White

Anne will present a slide show featuring the process of creating the artwork for Swan Lake, the various printmaking methods plus collage, drawing etc.   Anne will showcase her sketchbooks and concertina books for the students to enjoy.
